More adventures

Sean finally got off last night. He is sitting in Kuwait at the company apartments waiting for his flight to leave for Iraq now. He made all his connections and is almost there. Not sure exactly what the plan is for his next trip home. There are possibilities in October or he may just be home for Christmas. We'll see. I've learned not to plan too far in advance cause it never works out the way I imagine.
Today was an amazing day. Shannon and the kids had been talking about going to Great Escape, the local Six Flags, this weekend. After the up and down of the week and being SO far behind on my to do list, I almost cancelled. I decided it would be fun and a good transition into being here on our own. So early this morning we packed the three kids, swim suits, towels and us into the car to head the hour and a half to Lake George. What a great thing to do. I don't think I've been to an amusement park since high school. We started the day at the log ride drop thing....every amusement park has some version of this ride. Melody was absolutely beside herself. It was the most fun I've seen her have in a really long time (possibly ever). She couldn't stop grinning and was running from ride to ride. She was far more adventurous than I had imagined and I was so proud of her. We headed to the water park portion after lunch where we did water slides, the lazy river (about 9 times) and the wave pool. By the time we left Melody was doing water slides on her own over and over. She also totally impressed me by heading under the water in the lazy river and truly swimming a few strokes all the way under before she came back up. I mean she was way down there and even her kicking was all under water instead of the usual kick/splash that has been accompanying her swimming. I was thrilled and so proud. We have a picture that I couldn't help but purchase from the park. I'll scan it and post it tomorrow. After the water park closed we headed in for the "Raging River" where we were all soaked again and the ferris wheel. It was incredible to watch Melody interact with Sierrah and Marcus. She's adopted Sierrah as a big sister, but the best part is watching Sierrah adopt her as well. Melody would do anything Sierrah did and Sierrah was a great sport about having Melody tag along. We found some good greasy kettle fries with cheese and bacon (YUM!!!!) and then Melody and I took to some rides together. We rode a few spinning rides which had me grinning. Melody was SO happy. She was giggling so hard it was nearly impossible to scream. And in between giggling and screaming, she was yelling, "this is so awesome!!" It was really a great day. All three kids fell asleep on the way home and crashed as soon as they hit the beds.
Now to finish the homework I have due today and crash so I can get started early tomorrow. I have a lawn to mow, a paper to write (actually 2 papers), wall paper to peel, berries to pick, pies to make, trimming to do in the lawn, sanding trim before my furniture comes in.....and who knows what else is on that list. :)

  1. Sounds like fun! I tried to post earlier, but it didn't post. I'm glad you took the day and went - you needed that after the last week. I wish I could have watched Melly on the rides and at the water park.
