Making Progress....

Today was a good day. I finished the hall. I still am planning on doing some accent work around the stairs, but the main part is done and it looks nice. I'll include some pictures. It was a lot longer process than I thought, but it looks nice. Still need a bit more cleanup, but it's definitely progress.

I needed to run the excursion for awhile to make sure the batteries stay charged. I was trying to decide what to do while it was running when I noticed Alice (the lady across the street with the new puppy) crouched down in her yard looking for something. I went over to talk and found out she had a momma cat and baby kitten under her porch. She's not big on having the wild cats around the house and Shera definitely is not a fan of sharing her yard. So Alice had called her friend up the street who is a cat person. Between the three of us we were able to get the baby out and determined it was big enough to be away from its mother. Pat (the friend) sat down and put the kitten on her lap. The kitten just laid down and went to sleep. It was cute, but strange considering the wild cats in the area stay very far away from people. We're not sure if it's healthy or not, but it sure was cute. :) Pat took it home and is going to get a vet appointment as soon as she can. Hopefully it'll be a good story. Alice then asked if she could come see what we'd done in the house. She walked back down the street with me and took a tour of the downstairs. It was nice to have someone from the outside say how much progress we'd made. She gave me her phone number and email. It's nice to have some friendly people in the area.

Melody is loving her camp. She swims every day and today they did the rock climbing wall. She is remembering what "real life" is like. Today when I picked her up she told me that "the week is very long". She is very tired from all the activity, but every day when I pick her up she doesn't want to leave. It's a good experience and good practice for when school starts again.

Due to a request, I'm posting some pictures of our local beach. There are a few of the beach. I also included a picture of Sean, Melody and Godiva walking down to the beach one night. We have to go across the street, down a grass hill, across the railroad tracks and down a little wooded path to get to the beach. (it sounds far, but it takes less than 5 minutes) It's a nice little walk and Godiva is good about walking right with us on the trek. She knows that if she's good and doesn't pull, she gets to go for a swim when we get there. :)

I took a break tonight and followed the suggestion of a friend. There was a meteor shower that I decided to try to watch. I kept telling Melody how great it would be to be able to see the stars out here where there are fewer lights. However, I have yet to really enjoy that. So...I packed up a coffee mug, 2 blankets, a flashlight and Godiva. We headed out to the back corner of the main yard. I laid there and watched the stars for about a half hour. It was incredible...I haven't seen that many stars in years. Also saw a few meteors. It was a really great way to end the evening. I had to come inside when a utility truck came to fix something on the powerlines and parked their truck with flashing lights on my street. Godiva had been really good. She was laying on the blanket keeping watch in the dark, but was not happy with the disruption and let the power guy know she was not happy. So...we headed inside.

Now I smell like bug spray and am heading for a quick shower and then bed. :)
