New Experiences

I know, I know....it's been way too long. Several people have pointed out the amount of time which has passed since my last post. I'll try to catch you all up on everything now.
Melody continued to enjoy her summer camp and had a great time. She did well and loved everything. They did the rock climbing wall twice and she was a huge fan of that. She did it 4 times on the last day. They also took the kids for a free karate lesson. She is now trying to chop and kick everything in site.
Katie came for a week and left last night. We had a great visit and I enjoyed getting to see her again before she headed out on her new adventure. We spent a day in Burlington doing the church street thing. I finally got to go back to the Skinny Pancake, a crepe place Steve, Tiff and I had discovered when we were here the first time. Their menu is full of yummy crepes. It's broken down into sweet, savory, breakfast and the specials. I had an apple and brie crepe that was incredible! Looking forward to many more trips there!!! Melody spent the weekend at Shannon's under Sierrah's care. They had a good time too. I heard Melody got into trouble once and Seirrah had to put her in time out. I'm sure it was a good learning experience for them both. :) Shannon took the kids to the cheese factory for a tour. Melody loved that and came home full of information on cheese. She also came home with a bag of cheese curds (which she may have gotten a few of before Katie and I devoured the rest of them).
Today the furnace people (same guy who does my plumbing) came and checked/cleaned the furnace. We were a little nervous for this because of how long it has been since it's been run. However, the furnace exceeded all expectations, even Tim (the contractor). Tim had given me all worst case senarios about putting in new furnaces and boiler heat and other options. He wanted to prepare me BEFORE he told me it needed to be replaced. When he took it all apart and cleaned it, he got it to run at 81% efficency and it seemed to work fine. It's not the best case senario, but it will get me through the winter. I also contracted him to do some other winterizing work which will be helpful.
Miss Alyce (found out I've been spelling her name wrong) came by this afternoon and asked if Melody wanted to go with her to walk the puppy. So...Melody got to go out for about an hour and walk around Port Kent. They were all happy when they came home so that was a good time. I was able to do a few things while she was out. When she came home, the people across the street were outside, so we went over for a chat. Now Melody is at their house playing with the little boy. He is the same age as her and will be starting first grade at the same school. They will be riding the bus together, so it's a good time to start a friendship. This is a new experience for both sets of parents I think. I am sitting in the room watching them out the window and I see the dad also keeping a close eye on both of them. It's a good thing, but a little nerve-racking. Godiva is also not dealing very well with it. She can see Melody, but knows that she is not in our yard "where she belongs". She is less than thrilled with the whole situation and is letting me know it by pacing around and barking occasionally when Melody goes out of sight. Oh well...I guess we all have to learn. :)

I think that about sums it all up for now.

  1. I'm fairly certain it hasn't been as humdrum as you make it sound! Though that is better than 'the trip from Hell'.

Sounds as though you are settling into a routine - just in time for school to start and upset the whole applecart.

  2. So glad things are going well and I'm thankful you have such wonderful neighbors! Melody is lucky to have a friend the same age to play with!
